Usually the husband and I spend 4th of July in KC with his family. This year work didn't allow for that until the last minute, then it was too late to plan. The husband didn't get the chance to ask off then they randomly scheduled him off. So we took the opportunity to enjoy the day off together, sleeping in late, relaxing, and doing mostly nothing.
HuHot sent a buy one, get one coupon so we took advantage of that for an early lunch.
We spent the afternoon/evening at my parents'. Grilled chicken and bacon onion rings.
After dinner we did some minor firework-type things in the front yard. Other than sparklers, fireworks are illegal in town, so we had the the stuff you play with on the ground and some poppers.
Love playing with snakes!
Snakes always make such cool "sculptures." I made one that looked like a hand crawling up out of the ground. It was really creepy. I had recorded it, but my camera crashed and it failed to save.
On the way home we bought a watermelon ('cause you can't have a 4th of July without watermelon, right?), and spent the rest of the night watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.
Found out later that Life 360 and Convoy of Hope put on a free event at the Fair Grounds. Sounds like it went over really well, so maybe next year.
