The Tale of the Friheten

Saturday was the husbands 31st birthday, so what does he want to do? Go to Ikea, of course. Last Friday we made the two-and-a-half hour trek to Merriam, Kansas.

Obligatory half-way pitstop at Walmart and photo op. in Clinton:

My parents went with us because 1) they're super green and 2) their van was big enough to haul the couch we were planning to buy. This was their's and the nieceling's first time to Ikea.

Obligatory Ikea sign photo:

Fast forward through 3 hours of wondering Ikea (plus lunch) and the drive home, and we were ready to put together our new couch! We bought the Friheten sleeper sectional for our spare room. It's perfect because it's a comfy couch for hanging out and playing video games, but handy for potential company that may need to stay the night.

And so began the unboxing. We considered livestreaming this, but then we were too tired to care. Three big boxes, folks. That's a lot of heavy couch parts and a LOT of cardboard!

The unboxing was a workout in itself so it was time for resting.

The husband read me the story of the Friheten. It was a choose-your-own-adventure about a monstrous couch that had lost its love. Or it was about Ikea Steve slaying the Friheten and then his love disappearing. We weren't really sure. The pictures were in Swedish.

I'm the dork that lays out all the parts according to the parts index. It helps to visualize that they're all there.

After that we got busy putting the couch together and I forgot to take pictures. So here are some pictures of the finished product.

Excuse all the grainy horrible pictures. Seriously terrible lighting in our house when it comes to picture taking. But great for napping.
